Love Is Not the Destructive Force in Romeo and Juliet

Love isn't the dangerous power in Romeo and Juliet Romeo and Juliet, composed by William Shakespeare, is viewed as one of the best love catastrophes ever. It is a play around two youthful darlings, whose adoration was bound for annihilation from the earliest starting point in view of the hatredâ between the two families, Montagues and Capulets. The power that prompts this annihilation detest and desire, instead of affection. One of the powers that prompts obliteration in Romeo and Juliet is detest. Detest is a ruinous power, when it gets more grounded that love.Hate slaughtered Romeo and Juliet, and their adoration. It did this through the fight between the two families. The two adolescents were executed on the grounds that they continued attempting to circumvent the fighting between their families and go on with their lives. Here they had disparaged despise, which is likewise an exceptionally solid power, when surrendered to it. For this situation the Montegues and Capulets surrend ered to their loathe for each other. A case of why despise is ruinous and not love is a point in act 3, scene one. Romeo will not battle Tybalt on the grounds that they are currently cousins. He says: â€Å"I love thee better that thou canst devise, Till thou shalt know the explanation of my adoration, And along these lines, great Capulet, which name I delicate As Dearly as mine own, be satisfied†. This is an activity out of affection. Tybalt is angry and, when tested by Mercutio, slaughters him. This resuscitates Romeo’s loathe. He says: â€Å"Away to paradise separate lenity, And fire-looked at anger be my lead now! † This makes him execute Tybalt. These are activities out of detest. In this manner the power that shields from wrecking here is love, and the damaging power is abhor. Additionally, when love transforms into desire, this can be destructive.Lust can be a damaging power, since when individuals are driven by desire, their activities get indiscreet and hurried. This makes them not contemplate what they do. That the activities of Romeo and Juliet are infrequently determined by desire, can be seen for instance since Romeo needs Juliet yet when he has just barely met her. The absolute first time that Romeo sees Juliet, he says: â€Å"Oh, she doth show the lights to consume brilliant! It appears she hangs upon the cheek of night, Like a rich gem in an Ethiope’s ear, Beauty unreasonably rich for use, for earth too dear.So shows a frigid bird trooping with crows, As there woman o'er her colleagues appears. The measure done, I’ll watch her place of stand, And, contacting hers, make favored my inconsiderate hand. Did my heart love till now? Renounce it, sight! For I ne'er observed genuine magnificence till this night. † He doesn't have any acquaintance with her from within, yet as of now needs to contact her since she is so wonderful outwardly. Desire crushes since this makes Romeo and Juliet act rash. At the point wh en Romeo hears that Juliet kicked the bucket, he acts incautious, and goes to her to slaughter himself. He doesn't think obviously the way that he didn’t get news from Friar Lawrence, and furthermore not about his affection for his family. So desire is a damaging power when it overrules love. Moreover, in Romeo and Juliet, love isn't a power that wrecks. At the point when love overwhelms loathe, it is a wellspring of bliss and government assistance. There are numerous scenes in the play where love is a wellspring of harmony and joy. Right off the bat, the affection that Romeo and Juliet share lifts Romeo from his misery over Rosaline. He states to Friar Lawrence â€Å"I have overlooked that name, and that name's woe†.This love fulfills Romeo as opposed to crushing him. Love on itself carries beneficial things with it. Love accommodates the two fighting families, the Capulets and Montagues who have been harsh adversaries. During the story, love faces increasingly hard di fficulties. Toward the finish of the novel, the adoration for Romeo and Juliet is devastated on the grounds that detest has overwhelmed love. In any case, at that equivalent second love overwhelms abhor in light of the fact that Capulet and Montague make harmony with one another in the wake of seeing thatâ their youngsters were so infatuated with one another that they sacrificedâ their lives for one another. This prompts development, and not obliteration, on the grounds that the families will currently cooperate as opposed to wrecking each other. To finish up, adoration is an incredible power however not a ruinous one. What is damaging is despise and desire. At the point when despise and desire overwhelm love, this obliterates. This is seen when the despise of the two fighting families prompts the passings of Romeo and Juliet. At the point when love overwhelms abhor and desire it can make new chances, for example, the closure of the fight between the families.

Del Rey has been contrasted with Marina and the Diamonds, Lady Gaga, Lorde, Florence + The Machine, and numerous other extraordinary craftsmen. Obviously, Born to Die is one of her best collections for her verse decision, sound, and generally significance. Del Rey’s collection has an encouraging sound that can quiet down anyone in trouble. One hear her out relieving voice and you’ll be entranced by her. No noisy and raving dubstep or shouting exciting music, simply quieting tunes playing out of sight. The vast majority of the melodies on the collection are about adoration or Del Rey’s life, as she uncovered in a meeting. Towards the finish of the collection her melodies begin to get dull and desolate, as though she lost the affection one who once brought her happiness. The front of the collection appears to speak to the music quite well, the spotless and fresh image of her resembles how she sings and how she introduces herself. This collection is ideal for youthful grown-ups or adolescents such as myself. I would download it, its value the cash. There is an unending chance on what you can envision her tunes are about. I would prescribe this to any individual who is searching for a bygone era, smokey voice collection.

Activities Midway

Activities Midway Friday was the annual Activities Midway, a hugely popular Orientation event that showcases hundreds of MITs student groups (you may have seen this over at Sams blog). Of MITs 300+ groups, approximately 250 of them were on hand for the event. You can click here to view the entire list of MIT student activities, courtesy the Association of Student Activities (ASA). The ASA is an entirely student-run organization that recognizes and governs MITs student groups. I love that students have so much power of self-governance here! [full disclosure: I am a former officer of the ASA, 1997-99] Thousands of people attended the Activities Midway, which was held in the Johnson Athletic Center. When I arrived, I was given a list of the ~250 groups that had booths. You can view the list here [PDF]. I saw some other bloggers at the Midway Mitra was there, representing the Undergraduate Economics Association (UEA). Bryan was also there, representing Advocates for Awareness. Former blogger Alison represented one of my favorite student groups, the Lab for Chocolate Science (check out her button!). Yummy Because you could not be there, I took pictures of as many student groups as I could. Below, find a collage of 79 photos, representing about a third of the groups present. Lack of a picture does not mean lack of awesomeness I missed more than 160 groups, including Hillel, the Logs, the Bhangra Club, and OrigaMIT, but I did find the Filipino Students Association, the Entrepreneurs Club, Dance Troupe, mitBEEF, and 75 other groups. Enjoy!

string(101) " doing a great moving ridge of political volatility that farther destabilizes the African community\." From a critical observation, the American metropoliss since the 1950 ‘s to day of the month has gone through a figure of cardinal alterations in countries like industrialisation, authorities, instruction and many others. This paper focuses on the development of the great American metropoliss from the 50 ‘s through to this twenty-four hours. Between 1900 and 1970, the Southern black Diaspora began migrating from the South into the Northern and Western parts of the US. We will write a custom essay sample on Study On The Urban City History Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now This inflow was mostly due to the wake of the bondage epoch therefore inkinesss needed to travel off from the southern parts for a complete sense of emancipation ( Grossman. par 1 ) . To appreciate how the African American mass going altered history we must get down with the fact that these migrators were come ining into some of the largest metropoliss in America and they were making so exactly at the clip when these parts benefit from their greatest political and cultural prosperity. New York, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Cleveland, and Washington DC were the cardinal spiritual, industrialisation, media and political centres for new America ( Grossman. par 2 ) . African Americans from the South such as Rev. Jesse Jackson found channels to act upon some of the institutes housed by these cardinal parts and through them gained pull that finally, over the old ages, would be used to change the state ‘s systems of cultural dealingss and regional nexus. Important to that embryologic influence was a distinguishable community creative activity that converged in big North and western metropoliss during the first half of the twentieth century popularly referred to as the Black Metropolis. The 2nd moving ridge of the mass hegira occurred in 1960 in Chicago and this led to the addition of population from about 270,000 to over 800,000, an about three-base hit. At this point in times, many parts of Chicago and New York, peculiarly the Bronx, were considered capitals of African Americans. The great figure of inkinesss traveling into Chicago significantly changed the demographics of Chicago and the full Illinois province. Prior to the monolithic inflow, most of Chicago ‘s public was White Americans ( Grossman. par 3 ) . The figure of inkinesss in Chicago continued to increase with the great migration. Other Northern and Eastern parts such as Pennsylvania and New York ‘s Harlem became hubs of black civilization and ethnicity with the being of few cultural minorities such as Hebrews and Italians. As more and more inkinesss came into these new countries, they became increasingly incorporated into the community. Even as the mass hegira assisted in educating and bettering the life criterions of many African Americans, the immigrants encountered a figure of problems in footings of racial segregation, competition for occupations and resources and cultural differences ( Grossman. par 4 ) . Due to the fact that there migration was really fast with a big incursion, autochthonal white work forces felt threatened and vulnerable and feared fring their occupations and businesss. In several parts, workers attempted to guard what they saw as their district. In add-on, abode proprietors and Realtors would halt migrators from purchasing places or renting flats in white vicinities. Furthermore, when inkinesss moved into white territories, Whites would frequently respond sharply toward their new inhabitants, including immense public violences, bombardments, and even slaying. Still, with increasing racial tensenesss, many black Americans managed to get a assortment of occupations with different incomes makin g an earlier unknown phenomenon known as category ( Bullard. Pg87 ) . These experiences led to the division and segregation of these two groups of inkinesss but they still retained their ties by populating together in similar vicinities and countries. Following this huge diverseness, there were a assortment of good and bad happenings that shaped the African American community. Religion and political relations greatly helped keep together the black community. Harmonizing to Grossman ( par. 6 ) , it was obvious that the African American society had deep religious devotedness and this is why it was non uncommon to happen legion churches and religious establishments within the black community, largely Catholic and Methodist ( Grossman. par 6 ) . It is besides of import to observe that there were more churches in the lower category inkinesss than the upper-class ; this is due to the fact that the elect frequently concentrated on their concern enterprises and their connexions with their fellow white concern associates. In add-on, the church provided basic services such as nutrient, lodging and medical installations to the less privileged in their society. Politicss to a great extent besides united the black society, for case, of import politicians such as Malcolm X assisted inkinesss in geting much needed metropolis services and basic human rights. Bullard ( 2007 ) argues that by the terminal of the 1950 ‘s the black society in these antecedently dominant white parts had radically mechanized with the constitution of Shopping centres, more industries and mills in bend making more occupations. These parts became extremely independent and there was a noteworthy addition on suburban countries. The roar in economic system caused the federal authorities to increase services such as loans, mortgages and capital investings in concerns. The authorities provided avenues in which populace could be able to purchase places otherwise impossible with so much costs. The terminal of World War II and a competent president saw great civilisation with edifice of larger places by householders and a big figure of young person go toing schools and other establishments. By the early 1960s, African Americans were super-urban, more dumbly populated in inner metropoliss than other cultural groups. As mentioned, non every African American immigrant moved into the suburbs and chief metropoliss ( Grossman. par 5 ) . Other opted to settle in other countries, particularly the Northwestern and southwesterly sides of Chicago. The changeless protests and conflicts caused many inkinesss to get down go forthing preponderantly white countries. The political instability that is apparent from the 1930 ‘s, peculiarly the disgraceful Frank Skeffington saga of running for another mayoral term, obviously leaks into the 60 ‘s doing a great moving ridge of political volatility that farther destabilizes the African community. You read "Study On The Urban City History Essay" in category "Essay examples" His loss and eventual decease distorted the visual aspect of urban political relations and left Boston starved for a strong and straightforward political leader who could give the South a good sense o authorities. In add-on to the assorted incompatibilities within the Democratic Party, peculiarly within the parts of black inflow, the migrations during the early 1900 ‘s had considerable consequence of both the North and the South ( Grossman. par 6 ) . Changes in political relations, concern, health care and instruction consecutive drew migrators back from the North and besides making a stronger base for the Republican Party. In the 1950- 1960 elections, Republicans won in all the three elections. The more profoundly rooted Democrat provinces such as Alabama and Georgia retained their democratic seats despite the political alteration. In the 1964 election nevertheless, ‘Goldwater Republican ‘ ran an old school run which opposed the Civil Rights Act protecting the black minorities. This controversial run was popular with the White militants but the black Americans were non happy with it. He finally lost his ballot through the absence of Black ballot. As reported by Bullard ( 2007 ) , this loss in the Republican Party gave Democrat Richard Nixon a downwind manner to gunner the Southern ballots and retrace the Democrat southern foundations. This was followed by the blackwash of Republican Martin Luther King Junior on April 4, 1968 ( Grossman. par 7 ) . His death was followed by public violences and force by African Americans in metropolitan countries in major metropoliss around America. Thus his non force steering rule was thwarted and ignored by many. The instability and volatility caused by this great black leaders demise saw African Americans in all parts of America abandon their hopes and dreams to mourn for a much loved peoples politician. The black segregation that resulted had great economic impact on the society. A degage black economic system was established which had a assortment of professionals, tradesmans, politicians and linguists. At this point in clip, political relations had become the order of the twenty-four hours in Black America and a distorted system saw politicians making favours for citizens to gunner ballots alternatively of geting them in the old traditional manner or truth and justness. Politicians would pay for funerals and instruction demands, acquire occupations for people who are under qualified or even out justly give the citizens money. This saw a big inflow of ailing incompetent politicians into the Congress and federal authorities mostly due to the fact that many electors had lost hope in the political system. For illustration, Kennedy ‘s entry into Congress was mostly due tot the fact that he was visually delighting to the electors contrary to Nixon ‘s anterior entry due to his intelligence and frankness ( Grossman. par 7 ) . This diminution in the political scene saw a sense of licking and the public focal point on different issues such as household, instruction, employment, young person and matrimony ( Bullard.pg 127 ) . The 60 ‘s, 70 ‘s and 80 ‘s were characterized by the female public being actively involved in the social issues but there were still no attempts by authorities to cover with such societal issues. Although the authorities established public high rise undertakings to cover with the lodging jobs, these undertakings merely served to farther increase the societal segregation amongst citizens. The labour force besides though extremely racially segregated saw the constitution of labour brotherhoods that catered to all signifier of workers. Another noteworthy constitution of this epoch was the development of the Television which meant that less people were traveling to cinemas and opted for remaining place and adhering with their households and in bend shortly get awaying the economic difficult times through amusement. This period lasted through the twentieth century with a slow but steady rise in industrialisation. A positive work ethic in the public combined with acquired accomplishments and uninterrupted mechanisation served to hike production and workers living criterions. As the industrialisation and mechanisation grew, so did the consumer market for merchandises and services rise and present a farther encouragement to the economic system. By the terminal of the 1900 ‘s America had become one of the most successful civilisations of the Earth with free market parts including New York and California being widely regarded as representations of developing states around the universe to emulate. After the recession, in which America recovered faster than the full universe, there is no understanding amongst experts sing the enlargement that extended throughout those old ages but economic experts agree that President Roosevelt ‘s schemes and policies stepped up the recovery procedure. Many have argued that Gold Standard epoch besides significantly assisted in the recovery procedure of the planetary economic downswing ( Bullard, pg 132 ) . Most bookmans and coevalss agree that the period after the Reconstruction epoch and the late 1900 ‘s is when America attained its highest technological and pecuniary stature ( Grossman. par 8 ) . This point in clip, as discussed earlier, saw the state being changed from a crude agricultural economic system to a to the full fledged ace power. Development of America ‘s transit web through H2O and air saw its mingling with similar ace civilisations such as China and Russia and in bend led to an intricate trade webs that progressively put America on the map. Although the old economic recession popularly referred to as the Great Depression challenged the US industrialisation force, the state over the old ages regained itself and emerged as a force to be reckoned with. This characteristic betterment in industrialisation saw the young person and immature urban professionals begin re come ining urban metropoliss and towns. There is a general diminution in the fringy population as people began migrating into the urban countries, this clip people of all ethnicity. There is besides a important rise in the figure of migrators from abroad, some coming to look for employment and other coming to put in the promising economic system ( Bullard.pg 127 ) . The investors were largely Nipponese and German who came to merchandise in motor vehicles and the latter to present all sorts of electronics. At this point it was progressively apparent that other states were besides germinating at the same rate and this was further confirmed with the great inflow of Korean ships into American Waterss. Bullard ( 2007 ) studies that, following this development and revolution of the US economic system, major Reconstruction began with the rupturing down of Philadelphia centre to pave manner for the Reconstruction of other major installations and besides the slum upgrading undertaking was established. The slum undertakings experienced a batch of renovation with most undertakings being established in the African American vicinities to upgrade their lodging. The federal authorities gave the occupants periods in which they could adequately travel out of the slums in order for the Reconstructions to get down. The authorities employed the usage of designers who were responsible for the earlier nineteenth century edifices therefore occupants were optimistic that they would acquire high rise lodging. In Chicago, the country known as the Black city, when the public lodging undertakings were completed, the population was preponderantly African American with a per centum of approximately 85 % ( Bullard, pg. 133 ) . In the beginning, the undertakings were clean, fresh and orderly with a good environment for childs and others likewise to boom but shortly, largely hapless households that inhabited the colonies began maltreating the installations and thenceforth they ruined the community construction in the public high rise. The increasing insecurity and offense within these hapless vicinities served to stain the name of these undertakings but the authorities is still hopeful at reacquiring and re set uping these cardinal lodging undertakings to what they were made and meant for ( Grossman. par 3 ) . Decision All in all, this diverse alteration in the political, societal and economic inclinations of the United States over the century basically shaped the Country ‘s history. The development of Science, engineering, and industry has non merely greatly shaped America ‘s accomplishment in trade and industry, but has besides contributed to its single political society, societal construction, educational and cultural system. American values of difficult work, entrepreneurship, and autonomy are attested to its bequest of ground-breaking proficient constitutions. Dice was traditionally the plural of die small cube with six faces, but is now being reinterpreted as singular. In this case weve also got a split happening. In specialist contexts die is still being used as a singular noun for metal stamp for coining. The dice used in gaming has a new reformulated plural, technically a double plural, dices (though some speakers still use dice as plural) ... When speakers dont feel words to be plural enough, they add another plural marker for good measure.(Kate Burridge, Blooming English: Observations on the Roots, Cultivation and Hybrids of the English Language. Cambridge University Press, 2004) Double Plurals in Irish English Both [Terence Patrick] Dolan [in  A Dictionary of Hiberno-English, 2006] and [Jiro] Taniguchi [in A Grammatical Analysis of Artistic Representation of Irish English, 1972] ... draw attention to double plural forms (or what Taniguchi calls vulgar forms) which also occasionally appear in Irish English. These involve the addition of /É™z/ to existing plurals which end in -s. Dolan offers the examples of bellowses for bellows and galluses for gallus, an obsolete form of the word gallows meaning braces. Taniguchi, on the other hand, cites newses as a plural for news (1972: 10). While I have not encountered the latter form, I have frequently heard other forms, such as pantses and knickerses. What is more, the film corpus displays the forms chipses and barrackses.(Shane Walshe, Irish English as Represented in Film. Diss., Peter Lang GmbH, 2009)My mother used always to laugh because when they met Mrs. Hogan used to say any newses and look up at her, with that wild stare, opening her mou th to show the big gaps between her front teeth, but the newses had at last come to her own door, and though she must have minded dreadfully she seemed vexed more than ashamed, as if it was inconvenience rather than disgrace that had hit her.(Edna OBrien, A Scandalous Woman. Stories by Contemporary Irish Women, ed. by Daniel J. Casey and Linda M. Casey. Syracuse University Press, 1990) Double Plurals in Russian Anglicisms In general, words tend to be borrowed as unanalysed wholes, their internal structure being opaque to the borrower. Russian speakers are therefore often not aware of the meaning of the English plural morpheme -s; this can lead to double plural marking through the addition of a Russian inflection to an English plural; as in pampersy, dzhinsy, chipsy. (Tamara Maximova, Russian. English in Europe, ed. by Manfred Gà ¶rlach. Oxford University Press, 2002)

The hardness of different materials by Rockwell scale Lab Report

The hardness of different materials by Rockwell scale - Lab Report Example The obtained data is consistent to the hardness tester calibrations. The experiment was done through performing the different tests on metals having the hardness that is known. There was a close similarity between the experimental values and the published values of hardness. From the results, it is evidenced that cast iron was the hardest material followed by 1018 steel, brass and lastly aluminium. Aluminium is considered to be relatively durable, soft, lightweight, malleable and ductile metal having an appearance that ranges from silver towards dull grey. Its appearance is dependent on the roughness surface. Aluminium is nonmagnetic and has a low potential for ignition. An aluminium fresh field acts as a good visible light reflector and a delightful reflector of far and medium infrared radiations. Pure aluminium has the yield strength of 7 to 11 MPa whereas its alloy has a yield strength of about 200MPa-600MPa. Studies conducted on the hardness of aluminium found out that aluminium ’s hardness is one third that of steel. This research argued out that aluminium was less hard than steel. The hardness of cast iron was close to that of 1018 steel. On the other hand, the hardness of brass changes according to its treatment and preparation and treatment. The hardness may reduce whenever the annealation is done at temperatures that are elevated (Zhang 2). The acoustic and malleability characteristics of brass make the metal be extremely useful in musical instruments such as trumpets (Anyalebechi 2).

The positive and negative influences has televisions had on your Essay

The positive and negative influences has televisions had on your society - Essay Example Before television was around, news was reported by radio or in the next day's newspaper. There were no moving images. There was no opportunity to watch sport games or see presidents speak. There were real limitation to the amount of information a person at home could receive. Now, however, that has changed. Television lets us see the world like never before. We have a real opportunity to watch events develop in real time. The recent revolution in Egypt is a great example of this: it was possible to watch the square where protestors gathered night and day. Viewers could watch as the protestors were attacked by Molotov cocktails. These images brought the facts into vivid life. There are many other aspects which are positive. There are those who say television is bad for children. But scientific studies disagree. The economists found that television was especially positive for children in households where English wasn't the primary language and parents' education level was lower. "We do n't exactly know why that is, but a plausible interpretation is that the effect of television on cognitive development depends on what other kinds of activity television is substituting for," says Mr. Shapiro, 28. Growing up in the 1950s, Sonia Manzano, who plays Maria on "Sesame Street," was part of the first generation of children who watched television. Born in the South Bronx to Spanish-speaking Puerto Rican parents, she says that television "gave me a view of the world -- it gave me sort of a sense of what it was to be an American and what that was about." (Lahart). Television can open up whole new worlds to our children. There are trashy shows, no doubt, but there are also shows of substantial value. The difference is one of parenting. There is such a variety of kinds of programs, from documentaries to educational shows, that one can always learn something from television (Williams, 78). There are, however, a number of negative aspects to TV that are important to note. Televis ion can be a big waste of time. Many reality TV programs and entertainment news shows are glitzy and glamourous but impart no real knowledge. They are pointless and a waste of time. Many people spend hours in front of the TV when they should be getting exercise or acting in productive ways. Many children who watch TV can be negatively influenced by what they see. So many shows feature violent scenarios or the commission of crimes that children can get the wrong idea about how they should behave. They may learn to swear or drink alcohol by watching popular TV shows. Again, parenting is very important to help avoid this problem. Television can also be used to influence people in a negative way through propaganda. Television shows do not always show the truth and many people believe what they see on their screens. This is an unfortunate state of affairs. Governments try to use TV to manipulate their people, feeding them a diet of lies. Because TV images and stories can often seem so re al—which is why we watch so many dramas on our little screens—they can be incredibly powerful. Sometimes, there is not an intention behind the manipulation. Sometimes real important discussions are not seen to be entertaining enough, and are therefore kept off the air (Bourdieu, 3). Like with everything in life, there are good aspects of technology

What Is Healthy Lifestyle Physical Education Essay

What Is Healthy Lifestyle Physical Education Essay Healthy lifestyle, which means healthy physical and mental health, may be one of the treasures that everyone is chasing. AIA Singapore today announced findings of the AIA Healthy Living Index Survey which show that almost all Singaporeans agree healthy living is important. However, citizens living in the modern society may not lead a healthy lifestyle, because people might be stuck with heavy work and pressure. The poor eating diet, sedentary habit and lack of rest directly result in the unhealthy condition. Seriously, the unhealthy lifestyle may cause disease and mortality. Understanding healthy lifestyle is urgent. What is healthy lifestyle? Healthy lifestyle is the way of living which keep mans health in a good condition. A healthy lifestyle always consists of a good diet, adequate exercise and sufficient quality rest. 1. A good diet Eating healthily does not mean to intake strict amount nutrition every day, to stay unrealistically thin, or to separate you from favorite food. A good diet consists of healthy drinking diet and eating diet. A health corporation called Mayo Clinic (2012) said the adequate water intake for a healthy man is roughly 2.2 liters per day which is far more than 7 bottles. Water can be carrier of the chemical materials in our bodies. If you do not intake enough water, your body will not carry out the particular functions and easily result in tiredness. According to Pandalache (2012) healthy eating is having food feeling great, having more energy, stabilizing your mood, and keeping yourself as healthy as possible. 2. Adequate exercise Exercise can be an important and functional tool ranging from releasing stress and depression to preventing disease and strengthening bodies. Healthy exercise habit means proper amount and time. Research news from Roberts (2010) suggests that 15 minutes exercise a day can boost life expectancy by three years and cut death risk by 14%. Heavy exercise may not benefit your body. According to research (Bumgardner, 2012) on lung function, body rhythms, temperature, and hormone levels, the best time to exercise is around 6 pm. If you can keep a normal exercise habit every day, healthy body is not far away. 3. Sufficient quality rest. Chasing health lifestyle, healthy sleeping is one of the most essential factors. Generally speaking, sleeping is a process for our nerve and body to recover. According to an article (Smith, Robinson Segal, 2012), keeping a regular sleep schedule and eating right and getting exercise can easily give you a high quality sleep. Adults should sleep at least 6 hours a day to keep body getting enough rest. Keeping healthy needs lots of knowledge. Are the people educated well healthier? We carry out a research to find the lifestyle of undergraduates at National University of Singapore (NUS). 2. Methodology The interviewers were divided into 6 groups which were in charge of different faculties. Each group went to a particular faculty and selected respondents randomly. Respondents included 103 undergraduate-student volunteers, some of whom are attending the exchange courses in NUS. Initially, the participants were requested to complete a questionnaire (appendix 1). Afterwards, they were interviewed a few questions; and finally all the data were collected together and analyzed. Here is the information of respondents ¼Ã… ¡ And the relevant questionnaire is attached in the Appendix 1. 3. Results and Discussion The purpose of this research is to find how healthy NUS undergraduates are. As a healthy lifestyle is determined by dietary habits, exercise routines and rest patterns, the report will introduce the results in three parts. 3.1 Dietary habits Our data about drinking water are as follow: Figure 3.1.1 How many bottles of water do you drink every day? (250ml per bottle) Figure 3.1.2 how often do you eat breakfast? Figure 3.1.1 shows the response to the question How many bottles of water do you drink every day? (250ml per bottle) As we can see, only 9.71% of the respondents said that they drank more than 7 bottles. In contrast, 90.29% said less than 7 bottles. This latter finding (percentage) is alarming; especially nearly half chose less than 4 bottles. According to Mayo Clinic (2012), the adequate water intake for a healthy man is roughly 2.2 liters per day which is far more than 7 bottles. Water is the base of life, and it can be carrier of the chemical materials in our bodies. Additionally, when you do not intake enough water, your body will not carry out the particular functions and easily result in tiredness. Hence, there are needy to be better persuading undergraduates to drink more water. The table 3.1.2 shows the results of the question How often do you eat breakfast? The column on the very left indicates that 9 out of 103 interviewers never eat breakfast. In contrast, the very right column shows that nearly 37% respondents have breakfast very regularly. It can be seen from the column that most respondents chose the medium extent. University undergraduates might often surrounded by various tasks, ranging from presentation to research report. The heavy assignments may contribute to the irregular breakfast. Particularly, maybe the engineer students are blessed with the heaviest work, fewest engineer undergraduates have breakfast regularly. In addition, breakfast provided the energy for the whole morning; hence, undergraduates need to consume breakfast more regularly. 3.2 Exercise routines Our data about exercise time are as follow in figure 3.2.1 Figure 3.2.1 what time do you often exercise? Figure 3.2.2 how often do you exercise every week? The subject of this table Figure 3.2.1 is the time when do the graduates exercise mostly. And Figure 3.2.2 shows the response of the frequency of exercise. As we can see, around 45.63% of the respondents exercise at 3:00-9:00pm. However, there still exists several students chose morning or late at night. Also the gram shows 51.46% of the interviewees said they exercise once a week or less than that. It can be seen in general, NUS undergraduates exercise between 3:00 pm to 9:00, as the arrangement of the lectures may contribute to this. Probably because the compulsory courses may usually arranged in the morning or at noon, and the respondents may be free in the evening. Luckily, this might be one of the causes of graduates healthy exercise habit, as according to scientific research, doing exercise in this period may benefit most of people. However, the frequency may be alarming, as according to BBC news (Roberts, 2010), exercise 15 minutes every day is minimum for health. Again, the h eavy school work may contribute to this frustrating frequency. To conclude, there is a need for NUS undergraduates to exercise more. 3.3 Sleep patterns Our data about sleep are as follow: Figure 3.3 do you often wake up during the night? If yes, how many times do you wake up from sleep on average? From figure 3.3, we can see that the data are presented in descending order, with the highest number listed at the very left column and the lowest number listed at the very right column. More than 65% respondents never woke up and the rest mainly chose woke up 1-2 times. These findings is extremely satisfying, especially most undergraduates never woke up which means high sleeping quality. Again, the heavy work may contribute to the high sleeping quality, as NUS students generally sleep late with tired body and easily to fall asleep. Scientifically (Smith, Robinson Segal, 2012), almost everyone wakes up at night, but few can remember later unless people with mental disease. Hence, the NUS undergraduates sleeping quality is extreme high. 4. Conclusion In conclusion, the results of this study provide some amazing insights into the healthy lifestyle of NUS undergraduate students, including the diet, exercise and sleeping. Contrary to what we predicted, the undergraduates may not be so healthy. Though the academic work is important, heath is much more essential. On the other hand, if one is taking a long test or working long hours at a tedious task that requires strong body, one may be break down without healthy body. The mixed results of this study suggest that undergraduates should concentrate more on their health. 5. Reference AIA. (2011). Muhammad Ali’s Influence on Hip-Hop - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1551 Downloads: 9 Date added: 2019/08/02 Category People Essay Level High school Tags: Muhammad Ali Essay Did you like this example? Muhammad Ali was one of the greatest boxers to step foot in the ring. His brilliance showed every time he put on his gloves. Besides being a sports and entertainment legend, Ali was a social icon. His impact reached all around the world, and he is a role model for many people in many ways. Hip-Hop has been impacted by Muhammad Ali greatly and it shows. Muhammad Ali tremendously influenced hip-hop through rhyming, dissing, nicknames, and most importantly, his activism. Muhammad Ali, born January 17, 1942 with the name Cassius Clay, would soon become one of the most important and praised African American role models ever. He grew up in Louisville, Kentucky during a period of segregation. His father supported his wife and two sons by doing billboard paintings and sign work. His mother worked around the house. At age twelve he began his boxing career, and little did he know it was the start of him becoming the greatest American professional boxer. His boxing career included, being the first fighter to win the world heavyweight championship on three separate occasions, winning medals at the Olympics, getting crowned as the world and the male athlete of the year on several accounts, and being celebrated as one of the most significant and celebrated sports figures in history. Ali was not only rewarded for his achievements in boxing but was honored for his social activism and philanthropism. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Muhammad Ali’s Influence on Hip-Hop" essay for you Create order Even though it originated from Africa, hip-hop is a culture and art movement that was developed on August 11th of 1973 in the west Bronx, New York City. The innovation for this style of music was brought to life by its founding father, Clive Campbell-better known as DJ Kool Herc. Ali was in his prime during the 70s and that was when hip-hop was first starting up. The popular styles from the 70s were disco and funk that were constantly played in clubs during this time. The economy started to decline during this era resulting in many discos and night clubs forced to close their doors due to the lack of money being made to support them. Parties were brought back on the streets in urban areas where DJs would use sound systems to mix funk and soul style music. DJs would add in breaks, a tradition adopted from Jamaica, which led to many people dancing in a way that is today referred to as break-dancing. Through the years as more inventions came about, hip-hop had soon spread across the cou ntry and was becoming the top selling music genre by the 90s. To this day hip-hop is globally recognized and continues to influence music, styles, and culture around the world. Muhammad Ali might not have been a hip-hop artist, but his character and personality influenced many rising hip-hop artists to adapt his ways in their music. One way he did so was through his activism. Muhammad Ali, along with African Americans everywhere, had to deal with racism. Becoming a professional boxer gave him fame and a platform to speak out about the brutal system of oppression that he and others had to face constantly. Because he was so well known, he had a large audience that saw how they could accomplish much more than being the slaves they’d been forced to be. He used this to his advantage to ask for change and encourage his fans to speak up and fight for a change with him. Many people idolized him for putting everything on the line to fight for his rights, especially those who were musicians. Hip-hop music, when it started getting lyrics, mostly related to social issues and personal experiences and feelings. African American hip-hop artists began protesting thr ough their music in the same way Ali had been protesting. The general oppressions of African Americans and the need to speak out were very strong and already happening, but Ali gave a boost of confidence for many to speak out to a wider audience and bigger platform. Hip-hop spread the feelings of the African American community to territories all around the world. This soon became the main focus of the genre. Rhyming is a huge component when dealing with hip-hop music. Rhymes help make the flow better, make sure the lyrics lie easily on top of the rhythm, and give the songs a more poetic and storytelling feel. Muhammad Ali was known for talking trash to his opponents by rhythmic poetry. The most famous of his poems consisted of two lines that read: [bookmark: _Hlk531104239]â€Å"Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. The hands can’t hit what the eyes can’t see.† This famous Ali rhyme was sampled in a Lupe Fiasco song titled â€Å"Till I Get There.† Most professional boxers would try to belittle their competitors by threats, but Ali’s diss stood out from all of the others because of the rhyme that made it memorable and unique. Hip-hop artists used Ali’s rhyming tactic in their music so it would attract listeners. The subtle flow and catchy pattern appealed to the general audience quickly. It helped improve music so immensely that rhyming is still commonly used in hip-hop today. To have the most famous poem in sports history, Muhammad Ali had to use disses in the boxing ring. Dissing is seen regularly in sports like boxing. Opponents trash talk each other for publicity, to increase fight buzz, or to intimidate the other into losing the fight. Muhammad was the best at insulting his rivals. Some of his most famous trash talk included: It’s gonna be a chilla, and a killa†¦Ã¢â‚¬ and â€Å"Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. The hands can’t hit what the eyes can’t see.† Hip-hop started to include bragging, insults, and boasting content into songs. Hip-hop battling can occur on recorded albums, though rap battles are often recited or freestyled spontaneously in live battles. This added an entertaining and exciting element to hip-hop because listeners were fascinated by the amusing and provocative things being said about artists. Hip-hop artists still use this method today to draw in listeners. [bookmark: _Hlk531168205] Muhammad Ali wasn’t born with this given name. He was born as Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. He changed to Muhammad Ali because he didn’t want to be referred to by his â€Å"slave name.† As his boxing career progressed, Ali began nicknaming himself the GOAT (Greatest of all Time). Nicknames were a huge part of boxing that all the competitors took part in. They were memorable and built confidence. Hip-hop artists are also widely known for going by a nickname, which is often described as a stage name. 2 Chainz, 50 Cent, 21 savage, Big Sean, ASAP Rocky, and Cardi B are just a few of the hip-hop artists today and through the generations who adopted the use of a pseudonym. It allows for easier pronunciation of an actual name, or a chance to give artists a worthy title of being the greatest or a savage. Tons of hip-hop artists credit Muhammad Ali for influencing their genre. Chuck D, a popular hip-hop artist from the mid-90s, said he recognized Ali for influencing hop-hop with his rhyming and his braveness. His name is also mentioned in several hop-hop songs by several musicians. The songs either refer to his boxing skills or his contributions to hip-hop. 2 Chainz and Rick Ross’s â€Å"Ali Bomaye† references a showdown between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in which the audience chanted the saying that translates to â€Å"Ali, kill him.† Nicki Minaj calls herself the greatest and mentions Ali in her song â€Å"Win Again.† Like Minaj, 50 cent says he is the greatest like Ali in his song â€Å"Many Men (Wish Death).† In T.I.’s song â€Å"Rubber Band Land†, he gives credit to Ali for being the reason for how he can live how he wants through singing hip-hop music. Lupe Fiasco used Ali’s most famous poem, â€Å"float like a butter fly, sting like a bee† and his name as lyrics in his song â€Å"Till I Get There.† The most well-known of songs written about Muhammad Ali was LL Cool J’s â€Å"Mama Said Knock You Out† that is all about fighting like Ali. Many more artists have him mentioned in their songs, and many have acknowledged Ali’s impact through interviews and on social media platforms. Overall, it may be said that Muhammad greatly influenced hip-hop. Through his strong activism and fight for equality, he encouraged and inspired African Americans to protest with him, and many did through their music. He attributed to the rhyming aspect of the genre through his poetic ways of speaking. Ali dissed his boxing opponents before, during, and after the match, and hip-hop musicians frequently have live battles where disses are freestyled or include the insults on their recorded albums. Artists in the genre usually give themselves a stage name to use in place of their real name similarly like Cassius Clay did to Muhammad Ali to the GOAT. Hip-hop artists from the era of Muhammad Ali to now have given him credit for inspiring them in their music, whether it be from his political and social actions, his poetic rhyming and dissing, or his use of nicknaming. Muhammad Ali is a significant component in the development of hip-hop culture and composition that is still commonly used t oday.

Mcdonald s And The Minimum Wage - 993 Words

MCDONALD’S AND THE MINIMUM WAGE Introduction Minimum wage has always been, and will probably always be, a controversial topic. Some believe raising the minimum wage is the solution to poverty, while others believe that raising the minimum wage is a recipe for â€Å"killing† jobs. This age old debate has come to the forefront recently as the â€Å"Fight for $15† by fast-food workers continues to grow. The campaign’s core argument is that the billion-dollar companies in the fast-food industry can afford to pay their employees better to ensure their employees make enough money to support their families and cover basic necessities such as food, health care, rent, and transportation. McDonald’s is one of the billion-dollar companies that the campaign is targeting and fighting against and, therefore, McDonalds has taken significant heat lately about their decisions to keep their wages low. Thus, the debate is, should McDonald’s raise their minimum wage to at least 15 dollars for all employees? McDonald’s’ Consequences of Raising its Minimum Wage As mentioned earlier, raising the minimum wage is one possible factor in decreasing the number of individuals below the poverty level. In that sense, it would be a socially responsible decision for McDonald’s to raise its wages. Chad Stone, a writer for U.S. News World Report, reported that an increase to just $10.10 would bring 900,000 people out of poverty (Stone, 2014). However, while the campaign’s main argument for raising the minimum wageShow MoreRelatedMcdonald s Ethical Principles And Ethical Issues912 Words   |  4 PagesThe McDonalds is one of the largest international fast-food chains that distributes their products in more than 119 countries across the globe.
